What is Active Vent?
Active Vent is a range of patent-pending, wind-powered cross-ventilating vents, manufactured in Cardiff by an ISO 9001-certified manufacturer and distributed from our base in Swansea. The Active Weep Vent ventilates cavity walls and has a removable insert so it can be inspected and cleared; the Active Trickle Vent ventilates rooms through the window frame.
How is it different from a normal trickle vent or air brick?
A passive vent only lets air drift in. Each Active Vent unit has its own inlet and outlet: at 0mph it works like a standard vent, and once the wind picks up it ventilates actively, drawing humid air out while fresh air comes in. That gives cross-ventilation from a single unit, with no fan.
Why do I need cross-ventilation, not just ventilation?
Humid air only leaves a room when there is a way in and a way out. An extractor fan in a closed bathroom, or a trickle vent with no outlet, moves very little air. Each Active Vent unit provides both a clean-air inlet and a humid-air outlet from a single unit, powered by the wind, so it is designed to keep cross-ventilating even with doors and windows shut.
Does it need electricity or wiring?
No. Active Vent is powered entirely by the wind, so there is no wiring, no running cost and no switch for anyone to turn off.
How much does it cost?
Active Weep Vents are sold in packs. The Whole House Pack of 50 is £90 (£1.80 per vent, enough for a typical terraced or semi-detached home), packs of 10 are £24 (£2.40 per vent) and packs of 100 are £160 (£1.60 per vent). Will it make my property compliant with Awaab's Law?
No product can guarantee compliance on its own. Awaab's Law sets how quickly social landlords must investigate and fix hazards. Active Vent is designed to help with the fix by tackling a common root cause of damp and mould: inadequate ventilation. Damp also has other sources, such as leaks and plumbing faults, which a vent can't fix.
